STEP Australia Excellence Awards recognise exceptional and outstanding Australian TEPs. Open only to STEP Members in Australia, these Awards recognise and celebrate excellence among solicitors, lawyers, accountants, barristers, bankers, trust managers and financial advisors.
This award recognises an exceptional trust and estate practitioner who stands out from others in the field, and has been in professional practice for over 25 years. The winner will be a practitioner who has consistently demonstrated, over an extended period, advanced technical expertise, leadership and contribution to the profession and STEP over and above what might reasonably be expected. Nominees must be a full STEP member (TEP).
This award recognises an exceptional trust and estate practitioner who stands out from others in the field, and has been in professional practice for less then 25 years. The winner will be a practitioner who has demonstrated advanced technical expertise, leadership and contribution to the profession and STEP over and above what might reasonably be expected. David Marks KC TEP is a commercial barrister, with particular experience in tax and revenue matters. As a barrister, he appears for taxpayers and the Revenue, honouring the cabrank rule. David also has a broader practice in trusts and estates, commercial and adminstrative law.
Mercia Chapman TEP is a lawyer specialising in the areas of wills and deceased estates, trusts and charity law. Mercia holds the degrees of Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney and Bachelor of Law from the University of Melbourne and is Senior Legal Counsel for Equities Trustees Limited.
Neil Wickenden TEP, is a former Senior Tax Partner with the New South Wales partnership of HLB Mann Judd for over 40 years, an Australasian group of chartered accounting firms. Neil is now a Consultant of HLB Mann Judd; advising on all aspects of Australian income tax (including capital gains tax), fringe benefits tax, and goods and services tax law to a range of clients including individuals, families and corporate groups.
Susan Fielding was admitted to practice in 1970 and for a period of over 40 years worked firstly at E M Heenan & Co and then at Northmore Hale Davy & Leake (later Minter Ellison) in the private client area doing a wide variety of work. Susan then moved with the practice to Jackson McDonald until her retirement in 2019.
Entries will open in March 2024 for the STEP Australia Excellence Awards 2024.
The winners will be announced at the STEP Australia National Trusts and Estates Conference being held in 2024.
