STEP NEW SOUTH WALES

We welcome all professional advisors, educators and students with a trusts and estates focus in their practice, whether for private or corporate clients.

Our STEP New South Wales branch enjoys membership from legal, accounting, financial services, trust company and judicial backgrounds. We welcome all professional advisers, educators and students with a trusts and estates focus in their practice, whether for private or corporate clients. We are committed to building strong links between our local, national and international STEP colleagues.

The branch meets every month from February to November at 5.30 p.m., usually on the third Wednesday of the month, for a lecture or panel discussion. It has been said that our lectures are of a high calibre and directly relevant to professional practice. Networking brings our members together in sharing ideas and opportunities.

Discussions span wills and succession matters, estate planning and estate administration, discretionary and unit trusts, asset protection, taxation of trusts, superannuation, and financial planning.

STEP Worldwide Excellence Awards

The STEP Excellence Awards celebrate outstanding academic performance across all STEP qualifications worldwide, recognising individuals who demonstrate exceptional achievement and uphold the highest professional standards. These prestigious awards honour the top-scoring students—those achieving distinction (70% or above)—across STEP exams, assignments, Essay Route submissions, and Diploma programmes.

In 2025, two exceptional candidates from New South Wales were honoured among the STEP Worldwide Excellence Award winners:

  • Congratulations to David Taylor of Segelov Taylor Lawyers, who achieved the highest score globally for his essay on the topic: “Digital documents and capacity.”
  • Congratulations also to Megan Barclay of KPMG Australia, recognised as one of the highest-scoring students worldwide in the International – Advanced Certificates category for the STEP Advanced Certificate in Advising the Family Business.
